Nepali Language and Cross-Cultural Training

Language Component
ITC offers a range of Nepali language training to different types of learner. Courses are conducted at survival level and from beginner to advanced levels.

Courses are designed to suit different needs. E.g. volunteers who work in Nepal for a couple of years, students who do internship or research in Nepal, expatriates, diplomats and visitors who would like to learn dome Nepali to make the most of their time by speaking the language while they are here.

Those who are staying in Nepal for a shorter time and doing normal things could take a basic course for up to 60 hours and those who work in Nepal for a couple of years in a typical Nepali speaking situation may take a standard course and reading and writing lessons. Courses are designed to suit individual needs.

Those who are already in Nepal and have already had some Nepali lessons before may take a refresher course and/or and advance course, including reading and writing of formal documents.

Cultural Component
Living Skills Training: This course covers basic skills that you require to live in Nepal without offending the host people. It covers simple do’s and don’ts, some beliefs, traditions and values of Nepali culture.

Family Stay: This is a total immersion course for learning about the culture in depth. You eat what the family eats, using your hands to eat the main course and you follow their time schedule.

Intercultural Management Training: This is a 1 to 2 day course covering the concept of culture; the four dimensional (4-D) model to understand culture; analysis of western, eastern and Nepalese cultural values; and development of strategies to function effectively in multi-cultural situations.

This is a tool to minimize the impact of cultural misunderstanding and maximize your professional and social effectiveness while working in Nepal.
